Description
Some day I will settle for a consistent way to introduce my alien species, but this day is NOT TODAY
The Mesothela. An arachnoid species, living on a planet with lower gravity and higher oxygen percentage than earth.
There are only female Mesothela on this sheet. In their society females are the authority, based on their biology. The males are smaller, more compact, outnumbering the females and stronger, but lack a certain amount of intelligence. They are not dumb, but the females are cleverer and more scheming, so they took the wheel. Males are more like pets or even property than a part of the social structure, and are used for labor and the dangerous works the females are not willing to do. There were tries of starting a revolution, but the women are not very forgiving in these cases and broke down all opposition. (For every three males born there is one female)
In terms of political structure they live in different oligarchic republic, but not every political party makes it to the end of their terms. Ever read about the Drow in Dungeons & Dragons? Kind of like that. Everything from calumny to assassination is courteous, and they never play fair with each other.
In diplomatic interests with other species they are surprisingly tame, after a "little encounter" with the Ikassi in their first decades as a part of the galactic community.
Because of the characteristics of their homeplanet the Mesothela don't really like mixed space stations. They are okay with the Neophron in terms of oxygen levels, but the standard gravity used on most stations is a problem based upon their fragile build. So when on mixed space stations they mostly wear armor like clothing that supports their frail joints like the knees, their torsos and necks. Their cultural fashion on the contrary are mostly dresses or tight catsuits made of fine silk for the females and practical sturdy clothing for the males.
Little fact: One in about 25,000 female Mesothela is born with poison glands and mandibles located in her mouth. All of them get "recruited" by a Sisterhood where nobody actually knows what exactly they are doing, but everybody is a little too afraid to ask questions. (Maybe just a boring assassin organisation. Or maybe their poison possesses hallucenogetic effects. Or maybe they just live in monasteries and play on bongos all the time. Who knows?)
So, yeah. That's them.
I'm actually embarrassed every time I have to write huge texts in english. My english is baaaad. Bad Ascar. Should've stopped drawing in english classes. Oh well.
